After Wallace broke out of jail, the police tried to investigate to find out where he might be. The police brought in Wallace's lawyer Ms. Van Drooten, and two men who had been in cells with Wallace before the breakout, Larry Taylor, and John Henley. The police knew that of the three, only one of them knew his location. After being questioned, they made the following statements:

The person who knew his location definitely lied. Whether the others told the truth was not known.
